Taylor Jensen is a family man, a carpenter, and an outdoorsman. He loves Utah. He finally got sick of looking at all the trash on our highways and felt like he had to do something. So he started a social media campaign to bring awareness to how dirty our highways are. He recently had a meeting with UDOT and realized how much over burdensome bureaucracy there is even for such a simple task as picking up trash. He understands now more than ever how critical local community action will be to solve this problem.
Our Fundraising event took place at the Cottonwood Country Club and it was a success! We celebrated the service of Jani Iwamoto, former Utah State senator for the 4th District. The funds collected will go to our efforts to increase access to healthy food and to normalize the use of school food pantries that serve 8,000 - 10,000 people each month, including 70% of the refugees living within Granite School District boundaries.
A special Thank You goes to our fellow Rotarian, Christie Vanderhoof, who led the event planning and was a huge part to its success. Thank you, Christie and all club members and guests for your service work and support!
A few of our Holladay Rotarians met up to go through 300 coats that were donated to us thus far. We enjoyed good conversations while doing service work and also watched the eclipse together! These donations are collected for our annual "Coats for Kids" event in partnership with the Hispano Latino Rotary Club. We are still collecting donations through November 3. The donations will be distributed to those in need in our community in late November during our Coats for Kids event that will take place at the CBC Clinic on 49 W Center St in Midvale.
